Cleaning Out 2003-06-22 I'm still trying to put the patio back together. But, to my husband's amazement, I'm trying to get rid of some of the plants. I spent several days this week cleaning out the atrium. It had gotten way too overgrown. The groundcover had grown over the flagstones. One flagstone was right up against the base of the palms. The palms themselves were full of dead leaves and spiderwebs. So I cleaned out the palm tree, cutting away enough of the foliage so that you can see the trunks and the unusual seed stalks on the palms. Then I pried up the flagstones. Pulled up a lot of the fern that keeps threatening to totally overtake the space. Moved my beloved sweet olive bush away from the window. I decided that if we were going to have a fountain, we might as well be able to see it. I put in some mulch; then hoed and raked the whole thing flat and put the flagstones back. Today my back and my hands are on protest. But the atrium sure does look good. |
