Blossom Season 2004-06-07 I took this picture a couple weeks ago. Clouds of purple jacaranda blossoms. I grew up with a jacaranda tree. Dad planted one for Mom on her first Mothers Day. I am the firstborn child. Im more than a bit biased. For most of my life I counted the seasons by that tree. The blossoms in spring, innumerable leaves in fall, twigs in winter. My parents cut the tree down a few years ago. I cant tell them that it hurt me. It is their house, not mine. But the loss of that tree means something to me. I got my first beesting stepping on a fallen blossom. I made a basket out of the twigs that fall in late Spring. The sight of jacaranda trees in bloom still moves me. |
