A Very Strange World 2003-03-21 Its a very strange world. I cant count the number of street corners I passed this evening that had either protesters or supporters waving signs. Sometimes both, on opposite sides of the intersection. For a few months now, there have been peace protesters on one corners and Support our troops people on the opposite corner of a major intersection. Id like to think that most of us have gotten past the point of equating the soldiers with the war. Whatever we think of the war, or the people that got us into it, we dont blame the soldiers that go and put their lives on the line for us. They sign up to protect us, or to have a job, or whatever reason they sign up. Then they go where theyre told to go. They signed away their rights to choose when they joined, and they go where theyre told to go and do what theyre told to do. Im pretty sure that most of them hope that it makes a difference to us here. However I might feel about the war, and the people that decided that we must go to war, Im still grateful to the men and women that are there on the front lines. |
